About Timothy and this website

Timothy was a King Charles Spaniel who lived in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire for his first couple of years, before moving to a west London suburb where he lived and worked until he died in February 2018.

Timothy lived an unusual life for a small dog, visiting many places that most dogs don’t get to visit.  He travelled around on foot, by car, bus, tube, train, tram, cable car, fishing boat, barge, even a pirate ship and a handcart.

In his retirement he couldn’t walk very far but still liked to get out and about, so forged  a new career as an internationally famous dog in a bag – gaining followers of his own website, Twitter and Facebook account, his own branded bags, and was covered by UK national newspapers and news organisations around the world.

He liked eating crisps, peanuts, meat and cheese.  He liked company, being wrapped up in a warm blanket with a pillow for his chin, barking at passing motorbikes and chasing next door’s cat. He didn’t like other dogs, getting wet, walking up steep hills, or brown sauce.

He’d tolerate other dogs in short doses, would accept getting wet if he believed that we’d dry him off and warm him up afterwards, would walk up a hill if it was really necessary, but brown sauce was non-negotiable: even if it was on meat and cheese.

He had beds in most rooms in the house and would sleep in the one nearest to us, wherever we were.  If we went out he’d usually go with us, but if he had to stay at home he’d sit on a cushion in the bay window and wait for us to come home.  Often that would mean staying awake, watching everyone on the street (shouting at next door’s cat if it came onto our driveway), and then jumping down from the window to greet us at the door as soon as we came in. He’d then have a drink of water, and go to sleep – his job of bringing us home then complete.

Timothy always missed us whenever we had to leave him behind somewhere. After he had to leave us, it’s now our turn to miss him.  We miss him terribly, every day, so have started this website to record some of our memories and share some of our stories and photos about Timothy.  He was the Dog In A Bag, but he wasn’t just the Dog In A Bag – he was also our best friend.
